Where is the Hokonui Moonshiners' Festival held?

The festival is held in the centre of Gore in the Arts and Heritage Precinct, on Hokonui Drive.

Complimentary to the festival, this unique location also allows festival patrons to visit the Hokonui Moonshine Museum, Gore Historical Museum, Eastern Southland Gallery and Gore Visitor Centre during the festival.

 

How much are the tickets?

Pre-sale tickets, on-sale now, are $40 (plus booking fee). 

Gate sales will be $50 per person, unless tickets are sold out prior to festival day.

 

Where can I buy the tickets?

Tickets are available online from www.iticket.co.nz or by phoning the iticket booking office on 0508 484 253.

Is there organised transport for out-of-town festival patrons?

There is a bus from Invercargill to Gore and return. The bus leaves Invercargill from outside the Tuatara Backpackers on Dee Street at 10.30am. The return journey leaves Gore from outside the Gore Visitor Centre (also the festival location) at 6.30pm. Tickets are $20pp and there are 45 seats available. Click here to buy seats.

 

Is there an age restriction for entry to the Hokonui Moonshiners' Festival?

No, there are no age restrictions. With every adult ticket purchased 1 child aged 5 years or under will receive free entry with a parent or guardian. Children must be 5 years or under on the day of the event to receive free entry. Over 5′s will need a valid adult ticket to enter.

 

For those aged 18 years and over, please be aware that due to local bylaws and liquor licensing restrictions, you may be asked for photo ID if you wish to purchase alcohol at the event.

 

Can I bring my own food and drinks?

NO DRINKS OR FOOD WILL BE ALLOWED TO BE BROUGHT IN whatsoever. There will be a range of food, wine, beer, cider and non-alcoholic beverages available for purchase on site, plus FREE WATER so you won’t go hungry or thirsty! While there will be EFTPOS available, it’s advisable to bring cash on the day.

 

What can I bring?

As this is an outdoor event, seating and tables will be on the grass/sealed areas in front of the stage, but you’re welcome to bring your own picnic blankets and chairs. You may wish to bring sun umbrellas for use at the tables. Shows will go ahead rain or shine (pending exceptional circumstances) – so bring sunscreen or wet weather gear as conditions permit.  A range of beverages and food will be available for purchase on site. While there will be EFTPOS available, it’s advisable to bring cash on the day.

What shouldn't I bring onsite?

No beverages or food whatsoever, No glass of any kind, No professional cameras or recording devices please. Bags may be searched by security on entry.

 

What are the start / finish times?

Gates open at 11.45am. The festival starts at 12 noon and finishes at 6pm.

 

Can I leave the festival area once I'm in?

There is a no pass-outs policy, meaning once you’re in you can’t leave unless you’re leaving the show for good – so make sure you bring in everything you want from the car when you first come in.

 

Is there parking?

Plenty of street-parking is available outside the festival site.

 

Is there EFTPOS available?

Yes, EFTPOS will be available but it’s advisable to bring cash.

 

What happens if its raining?

The Hokonui Moonshiners’ Festival goes ahead rain or shine and accepting this is a condition of buying a ticket. This is an outdoor festival so come prepared, with either sunscreen, sunhats, or rain protection gear if needed!  In exceptional weather circumstances, the festival will be moved to an alternative venue. In the event of this happening, the festival organisers with post the venue change clearly on this website and will also broadcast any changes on Hokonui Radio 94.8fm during the week leading up to the festival day.
